Do you set homework?
Primary and Intermediate students are usually assigned a small amount of homework. The purpose is to consolidate learning that has occurred during the session. Students should be able to do this independently with some exceptions such as spelling testing or speed-reading exercises. Team work with parents or grandparents has a great effect on learning.
Occasionally secondary students are set homework although usually schools are setting sufficient for their needs. When a tutor sees a specific need, students will be given direction in what to work on.
Do you offer tuition in the school holidays?
Yes, this is usually held during the second week of the holidays in the mornings between 9am and midday.
What happens if the family or child is away for a period? Are you able to hold onto our session for our return?
Yes, we are usually able to accommodate these requests with sufficient notice.
How soon can my child begin? Do we have to wait until the start of a new term?
You can usually start straight away. We start off with a free assessment for Primary and Intermediate students and a consultation for Secondary. Following these we work out a session day and time and begin tuition as soon as possible.
Do you offer individual tuition?
Yes in special circumstances, cost per session to be discussed.
How many school terms do we need to enrol for?
Each student's needs are different. Most enrol for an average of three terms, some stay much longer. Some enrol for a short course of essay writing / study skills / exam techniques, consisting of three or four sessions. Most students find that the continued weekly tuition gives the most benefit.
Our recommendation to Secondary Students is that they continue until their exams – stopping and re-starting is usually unhelpful.
